It has been a while since you heard from me/ seen new posts on my website. Sorry for that! Behind the scenes we’ve been working hard on some new content for you. Soon to be posted on this website. Soon to come: new videos, logo/recordlabel presentation, new show dates (and a list of passed ones), new music collaborations etc.

I’m glad to let you know that I started my own recordlabel. I’m the president/director of the company. The name and proper presentation will soon come.
In Nigeria things are moving well. We had some delay because of the elections in my homeland. But the road seems clear for us now, so we can pick up where we left. The music videos of Nigerian Girls (Omalicha Baby) and No Gain are coming your way. Forgot how these wonderful nigerian dancehall tracks sound like? Here’s the second track I recorded in Naija, Nigerian Girls(Omalicha Baby). Omalicha means beautifull. A true dedication to the beautifull women all over the globe, especially Africans/Nigerians. This is a featuring with Naija’s upcoming artist like I Shuga Boi. Another summer track for you lovely people.

Both No Gain as Nigerian Girls are produced by Pitch. Nigerian Girls is co produced by Shuga Boi. Thanx Igbo men for the wonderful collabo!

Lagos, Friday 5 March

Yes I! My first interview and TV appearance on Naija television is a fact. Galaxy TV is the name baby. Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt could see me live today around 11.00 AM @ Galaxy TV headquarters Lagos, Ikeja. People loved I appearance and special guest Nane (my lovely mom) was welcomed well well by our mother land! She even stole the show and took it to a spiritual level, thanx mommy! I video of Over(Nane’s Song) was banging on Galaxy TV. The producers, assistants, make up artists and the presenter were bouncing along and they be loving it.

Lagos, Thursday 4 March

Woke up early today @ 7.30 AM. I went to bed in time yesterday so I could wake up early, cause this is the big recording day. Today I’m going to work with Pitch. My first collabo with a Naija musician. Before going to the studio we went to get some good Naija food. I ate gary with egusi soup, yes my favorite! So I’m ready to go!

We took a taxi to Ikeja, Lagos meeting Jude at the Pitch’ studio. When Pitch and I met the chemistry was there immediately. He to is an Igbo man like I. When knowing this our bond grew even stronger immediately. I’m not saying this couldn’t happen with an Yoruba or Hausa Oga or Sista, cause we all are Nigerians.

Pitch already worked ahead and made some snippets of some beats. He made styles like hip hop and reggae. The styles I maintain. When hearing this I was immediately down with his sound. But I wanted to add something different on the Maintain Yourself EP. So we continued searching for another sound. I wanted to add that Naija flavor to my style. This is new to me and I’ve never done this. So I wanted to experiment with it. Pitch was surprised cause he thought I would go for the ‘easy’ way, and use a hip hop or reggae beat. We had an enormous time pressure so he asked me if I really wanted to continue without hip hop and reggae. I agreed and the big musical journey began. Suddenly he came with a Naija beat I really felt. From there on I sang a melody for him. He did his magic and a proper beat structure was there for I! It took me 1,5 hours to complete 3 verses and the hook/chorus. A complete song was born. I was like, ‘Wow, that went fast, I’m really in the zone o’. Show Boy, an artist who was listening and hanging around in the studio then gave me an advise. He truly felt the track, but advised me to simple vice the chorus for the Naija market. He explained to I that people like simple and short choruses they could sing a long. They don’t like deep going hooks. I agreed for 50%, cause I truly believe there are also people who like the opposite. But it felt right doing what he suggested. I then asked Pitch if he knew a female singer for the hook. He called up Shapera a singer he worked with several times.

1 hour later Shapera came and I was like wow. She’s a small fine looking woman with a great voice! She heard the track and bounced a long. She did a chorus which I liked, but she didn’t felt it. She removed it and asked me to do it myself. She felt this would have a bigger impact on the track. I then concentrated on the chorus, but couldn’t simple vice any lyric for the Naija market. My lyrics go deep and include spiritual messages. So it was hard for me to come up with a catchy hook. Suger Boy was also in the house and is a specialist in hooks/choruses for Naija market. Pitch called him to join us making this track. Suger Boy set with me and did some melodies with I. The chemistry that came down then was magical and spiritual. I felt him immediately and 20 minutes later we had a very catchy hook/chorus. We asked a great upcoming Yoruba singer Spine to come and add some native Yoruba flavor. When he did this, the track was totally locked down. I asked Shapera to do the bridge and she did. I felt goose bumps all over my body when she sang the bridge. Amazing artists they all are. I felt very blessed they just helped me out like that. Thanx my Ogas and Sistas!

It took us 8 hours completing the beat, the lyrics and finally the entire track. Soon to come my lovely people! One thing is sure for the artists whom participated on the track. It’s another Geoffy G hit! Igbo man in da houseJ

Moving Mountains Baby!

Lagos, Wednesday 3 March

Rise up and shine @ 8.00 AM in Lagos Surelere. We’re staying at a fine hotel. Surelere is a quite place where most of the entertainment stars live or party. Our room is a comfortable one with a living room, master bedroom and a douche with bath.

Today I’m finally going to meet Udoka (marketer) whom I’m working with but never seen before in real person. He is the one who did several selections/mix tapes in Naija for exposure of I music. Today Idi gave me the selections and newspaper I already appeared on. This without even being in the country! Udoka done well o. Soon to appear here on www.geoffy-g.com!

We first went to go and eat some fine Naija food/breakfast >> rice, gari with egusi, ogbono or vegetable soup. They didn’t had one of my favorite soup egusi. That’s why I took some rice with native soup. Back in Holland I’m used to eat rice with stew, but here in Naija they use native soup as well. So I just wanted to try this, cause what doesn’t kills you only makes you stronger, LOL. I found it very delicious!

After eating it was time to meet Jude (manager). He’s the manager arranging collabo’s and productions for I in Naija. We haven’t done business still, but he made some good preparations for I when I was in Holland. He did, so we didn’t had to waste any time when arriving in Lagos. We met, chatted and talked business. He was very excited and willing to work with I as an artist and person. This was vice versa. He’s the one handling Nnenka’ (Igbo/Germany) music here in Naija. I felt honored to be recognized by so so so person. We arranged the recording studio for the first track. Starting the next day. Then we planned an interview for this Friday @ Galaxy TV. More stations to come! Finally I let him here some snippets of I new material for a new reggae orientated album. I like working ahead. From the first tune he heard, a smile appeared on his face. He was totally stunned as he said himself. He told me that these were al hits and was sure I was going to take Naija music to another level.

Our next meeting then was with Udoka. He also gave me a good feeling bout I music in Naija. He and Jude truly believe in my music, I as a person and the impact my music can bring to Naija. He was excited to release the EP Maintain Yourself, but didn’t wanted to rush anything. Patience is the best key to success he explained to me. I fully agree with him. First he wanted me to future Naija artists for good promotion and acceptance by my Naija people. Then he wanted me (like Jude also suggested) to do some TV, radio, newspaper and magazine appearances for more and nation wide exposure. From then on we could talk about releasing the EP Maintain Yourself. In my opinion this sounded very good. Can’t wait to do so! So please have patience my Naija people. Udoka is a very smart and honest person, just like Jude. This is rare in Naija, were people are suffering and very focused on making money out of anything or anyone. I praise Jah for bringing us together and hope this working relationship will continue on like this. Also Udoka was very excited bout my new tracks I recorded in Holland for my future album. The game will be locked down when I start dropping my music he said to me. So let’s go!

My mom and Idi whom are one of my Naija advisors gave their blessings. They told me to continue working with Udoka and Jude, cause they also felt the 3 of us are a powerful combination. They had a good feeling bout these two young men, just like I had. So if Nane and Idi give me a go, I’m in!

Tomorrow will be my first day ever recording music in Naija. The first producer I’m going to work with is Peach from Maverick Studios. He’s an upcoming producer/artist and Jude truly believes he and I are a powerful combination. Peach is looking forward working with IandI, this is vice versa. Later on this week I’ll meet Shuger Boi, also an upcoming producer/artist. Both have worked/ore going to work with P Square and J Martins. Big names, so good promotion for I in Naija. Can’t wait to start making some music in I motherland. I was born ready so let’s make things happen. I’m truly Blessed and I thank and salute you for that Lord!

Lagos, 2 March Tuesday/Wednesday Midnight

Before reaching Lagos we passed true Tripoli. This guy on the photo called me the son of Bob Marley and wanted to snap a pic with I:

We arrived at Lagos Airport at 23.45. In my opinion it was better to arrive now, because it was not that crowdie. Last year when I flew to Port Harcourt with my senior brother Charles. This was different. It was very crowdie and it took us up to 1,5 hours to check out and get out of the Airport. Here in Lagos things were different. Idi, my brother’ close friend arranged a special treatment for my mother and I. He paid the Airport staff extra money. By doing this there was someone awaiting us after checking out. He was holding a name tag with ‘Theophilus’ written on it. This person helped us finding our luggage and carrying it. With this young man the Customs didn’t give us big trouble passing. Outside Idi was waiting for us with a personal security guy and taxi man. Walking outside I heard people calling me. ‘Rasta, Rasta spirit man’, ‘Welcome my brother and Bless you’. In 40 minutes we were checked out and in the taxi, on our way to the hotel.

The road we took to the hotel was a long one. We took the high way because of safety reasons. Gangs are operating this time of the day. They harass people because there are no police or military guarding the city/roads. Normally it would take us 15 minutes to reach the hotel. Now it took us 30 minutes to get there. But it was all good, because I had the most precious person with I. Nane, my mother.

I and I is back from a wonderful experience in Nigeria, my momma land. Like most of you know I was going to move some mountains there with I music. And this is what I did.
